Breast Lift

Breast lift surgeries are operations performed on people whose breasts are partially emptied and sagging for various reasons. Partial emptying of the breast brings about loosening of the skin and reduction in breast volume. In line with these situations, patients with sagging and lost breast complaints resort to breast lift surgeries as a solution.

The main complaints in breast lift surgeries arise from dissatisfaction with the existing breast shape. In this case, first of all, we need to address the reasons why women are not satisfied with the shape of their breasts.

What are the Reasons for Applying to Breast Lift Surgery?

The natural anatomical structure of the breasts can change due to various reasons, and these shape changes in the breasts can cause breast lift operation. In general, we can list these reasons as follows:

Asymmetrical disorders in the size of the chest can cause discomfort in terms of aesthetic appearance. Due to this asymmetrical image that the person sees in the mirror, he/she can apply to lifting surgeries.

Having small breasts can lead to dissatisfaction with the appearance of the body and to resort to surgery.
Gravity can cause a downward displacement of the chest skin over time. We can say that gravity, which is accepted as one of the main causes of all sagging in the body, creates its most visible effect on breasts with volume and soft structure.
Aging can lead to loss of elasticity and loosening of the breast skin. In addition, there are hormonal changes in women with advancing age. Especially the menopause period can cause changes in the levels of certain hormones, especially the estrogen hormone, and accordingly sagging of the breasts.
Frequent excess weight gain and weight loss can cause the tissues in the breast area to lose their volume.
Childbirth is a factor that affects the whole body system of women. However, with the effect of hormonal changes, we can say that the most obvious effect is in the breast area.
Breastfeeding creates changes in the breast tissue due to the filling of the breast ducts with milk. During the breastfeeding process, the breasts grow and shrink again, and this causes the skin elasticity in the chest area to decrease.

What are the Expectations of Patients in Breast Lift Surgery?

In terms of determining the method to be applied in breast lift surgeries, complaints and expectations from the operation to be performed in this direction have an important place.

In breast lift surgeries, when calculating the amount of lift, the patient’s expectations are taken into account, along with the amount of nipple and mammary gland, on the basis of breast anatomy. In this regard, breast lift operations are performed based on the amount of sagging of the breasts and the basic anatomical breast structure of the person. In addition, the amount of mammary gland present in the patient can also change the difficulty level of the operation to be performed.

The main reason for breast lift surgeries is to add volume to the breast by placing the breast tissues and contents in their former places. In this direction, within the scope of the patient’s expectations and complaints, the most appropriate method is applied by evaluating the existing fullness of the breast and calculating the sagging of the nipple.

How is Breast Lift Surgery Applied?

Before breast lift surgeries, evaluations are made about the patient and the application is planned as a result of these evaluations. In line with this planning, the implementation is carried out with the following basic operation:

  • First of all, general anesthesia is applied to the patient in hospital conditions. General anesthesia in breast lift surgeries ensures that the patient does not feel any pain.
  • The incision can be made at different points. Incision procedure in breast lift surgeries; It can be performed in the armpit area where the arm and shoulder meet, around the nipple or just below the chest. These incisions applied during the operation are maximum 3 cm. Because the aim is to perform breast lift operations by creating the shortest operation scar. In this regard, breast lift operations are performed by making the least obvious incisions.
  • Within the scope of breast lift application, implants are used to be placed under or above the chest muscle. These implants used during the application often contain saline and silicone gel solution. The content of the implants is reassuring in terms of the contents we consume in daily life. The outer surface of the implants used in breast lift operations is a prosthesis covered with silicone. The size of the implant is determined as a result of the patient’s expectations before the surgery and the evaluation of the person’s current breast size. Although it is necessary to act in line with the expectation of the person, deciding on the implant to be used based on the existing body structure and breast anatomy provides a more effective application.
  • If there is a lot of sagging in the breast area, a silicone prosthesis is placed on the breast in line with the lifting process, and it is aimed to provide recovery in the breast.
  • In people with minimal sagging of the breast, only the nipple recovery can be applied during the breast lift procedure. With the nipple rejuvenation process, minimal sagging can be eliminated and volume formation in the breast can be achieved.
  • If the amount of mammary gland in the person is small, recovery of the breast skin is more difficult.
  • In people with sufficient amount of mammary gland, an application similar to breast reduction surgery is performed, but the amount of mammary glands is not reduced.
  • The duration of breast lift surgeries may vary depending on the patient’s condition. Breast lift surgeries, which are usually performed for 1-2 hours, take a maximum of 4 hours.
  • With the application called Vertical Mammoplasty, the procedure can be performed through a vertical incision extending around the nipple and under the breast. However, this method is generally preferred and applied in very saggy breasts.

In principle, the patient stays in the hospital for 1 day after breast lift surgeries. With this procedure, which does not cause stitch removal problems, the patient can return to his daily life within a few days.
